The Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras
The most technologically advanced, innovative digital camera that Sony has ever created, the ILCE-9 (A9) offers a level of imaging performance that is simply unmatched by any camera either mirrorless or SLR. The camera offers many impressive capabilities that are simply not possible with a modern digital SLR camera including high-speed, blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps, 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second, a maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32,000 second and much more.
These are made possible thanks to its 35mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor – the world’s first of its kind – which enables data speed processing at up to 20x faster than previous Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. This unique sensor is paired with a brand new, upgraded BIONZ X processing engine and front-end LSI that maximises overall performance.
The ILCE-7RM3 (A7RIII) sports an updated BIONZ X™ image processor that boosts processing speed approximately 1.8 times faster than its predecessor, achieving nearly twice the burst shooting speeds compared to 10 fps, with full autofocus when using the mechanical shutter or the electronic shutter. The maximum ISO has also enabled its impressive ISO range of 100 – 32000 (expandable to ISO 50 – 102400 for still images) and massive 15-stop4 dynamic range at low sensitivity settings.
This mirrorless camera is equipped with an innovative 5-axis optical image stabilization system that has been fine-tuned to support its high-resolution shooting capacity, resulting in a 5.5 step shutter speed advantage, the world’s highest compensation performance for an image stabilization system. Offering a new software suit called ‘Imaging Edge’, the A7RIII extends creative capabilities for pre and post processing work, like live-view PC remote shooting and RAW development.
The ILCE-7RM2 (A7RII) is packed with back-illuminated 35 mm full-frame CMOS image sensor with 42.4 megapixels that takes image resolution, sensitivity (up to ISO 102,4004) and speedy response to new heights. The Fast Hybrid AF system’s dense extra-wide focal plane phase-detection AF coverage keeps a subject in sharp focus entirely throughout the frame, while 5-axis image stabilization reduces blur which otherwise tends to affect handheld shots. The camera’s high resolution is further enhanced by 4K movie recording featuring full pixel readout without pixel binning.
The ILCE-7SM2 (A7SII) is best known for its video shooting capability with extra sensitivity to ISO 409600 and wide dynamic range that refine stills/movies as well as delivering full pixel readout with no binning in full-frame 4K video format. With accurate focusing and unshakeable stability including 5-axis image stabilization for greater shooting control, the A7S II is ideally suited to capturing stills and video in challenging lighting conditions. Its full HD video can be captured at 120fps at 100Mbps.
The ILCE-7M2 (A7II) is an image-stabilized full frame mirrorless camera, a follow up of the original A7. It uses the same 24-megapixel sensor as its predecessor, and the same Bionz X processor as the rest of the A7 series. Improvements come in the form of 5-axis sensor-based image stabilization, improved AF performance and some overall design tweaks. The controls are laid out in similar fashion to the A7, though the grip, command dials and shutter have been completely redesigned. The A7 II uses the same hybrid AF system as the A7 with 117 phase-detect and 25 contrast points.
The Fixed Lens RX Series
The RX0 marries the leading-image quality of the Sony RX series with advanced photo and video capabilities, all compressed into a robust and ultra-compact body weighing just 110-gms. It can be used as a standalone camera for capturing photos or videos in any shooting conditions and is designed to facilitate creative photographic and videographic expression beyond current limitations. The RX0 is equally adept at shooting still images, filming video or can be used as part of a multi-camera set-up to create an inspiring series of images, videos and super slow-motion footage from a multitude of different perspectives. Its miniature dimensions and all-around versatility maximises freedom to tackle photographic and videographic challenges in new ways, with the assurance of high quality results.
The latest model from the RX10 line DSC-RX10M4 (RX10IV) built around a dust and moisture-resistant DSLR-like body with a fixed Zeiss lens that gives an effective focal length of 24-600mm (f/2.4-4). The camera features a 1.0-type 20.1MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor with DRAM chip along with a BIONZ-X image processor and front end LSI. It also comes with a high focusing speed of 0.03 seconds along with a 24-600mm Zeiss Vario-Sonar T zoom lens with f/2.4-4 aperture range. The lens also has built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization that helps to reduce camera shake and image blur. It is equipped with high density tracking AF technology that improves tracking and focus accuracy.
The DSCRX100M5 (RX100V) brings a new level of AF performance and speed to today’s compact camera market, driven by a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch sensor and an autofocus system that is equipped with a Fast Hybrid AF system shooting 24 frames per second. The RX100 V is packed with a newly developed 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor with a DRAM chip, a ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70 mm5 F1.8 – 2.8 large aperture lens and an enhanced image processing system with a new front-end LSI chip that maximizes processing speed, expands the memory buffer and optimizes image quality, in particular at high ISO settings. With a 4K video recording, the RX100 V features a Fast Hybrid AF system that combines the respective advantages of focal-plane phase detection AF.
The E-Mount APS-C Mirrorless Cameras
The mirrorless camera ILCE-6500 (A6500) shares the same unrivaled 4D Focus system that can lock focus on a subject in as little as 0.05 seconds. The camera’s 425 phase detection AF points can shoot images at up to 11 frames per second with continuous autofocus. It is also packed with 5-axis image stabilisation, a first for a Sony APS-C sensor camera, ensuring that the full resolving power of the sensor can be realised, even in challenging lighting conditions. It comes equipped with touch screen functionality, allowing users to lock focus on a subject simply by touching it on the screen.
The ILCE-6300 (A6300) offers a 24 megapixel Exmor RS sensor with 425 phase detection autofocus point and an ISO range up to 51,200. The camera’s sensor is also built using newer fabrication processes that use copper wiring to help improve the sensor’s performance and possibly contributing to the camera’s slightly improved battery life. It has 4K video recording and advanced 4D FOCUS tracks even fast-moving subjects quickly and precisely.
The ILCE-6000 (A6000) has Fast Hybrid AF that combines the strengths of both phase- and contrast-detection autofocus including a lag of 0.06 seconds and 11 fps continuous shooting with tracking AF. With a class-leading 179 phase detection points (covering almost the entire image) and a high-speed contrast-detection function, the result is a highly accurate movement tracking for both stills and video. The A6000 has superb 24 MP quality and an OLED Tru-Finder™, manual controls and a range of lenses, for a superior alternative to bulky DSLRs.
